I've literally and figuratively been taking the scenic route since 1981. I'm here for the journey, the detours, the pit stops and I always take the coastal road.<\/p>
Nature and nostalgia, particularly for the era of my childhood (the '80s and '90s), are what inspire me. I'm also obsessed with collecting souvenir merchandise and love the way it replicates the feeling of a place or time. I started designing the type of hyperlocal merchandise that I love for my family and it slowly grew into a collection that I've decided to share. It's niche but I love niche and hope you love niche too!<\/p>
King is my mum's maiden name and also the name of our family business, a drapers, founded in 1936 by my grandfather, Hugh King, and run by my uncle, Hugo King, along with my beloved grandmother Josephine until it closed on Hugo's retirement in 2000. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of the shop and this is where I fell in love with fashion and retail, an industry I would go on to work in for two decades.
